Master of Architecture - Track II

The Masters of Architecture is an NAAB-accredited professional degree program and is an essential aspect of preparing for the professional practice of architecture. Graduate students who complete a recognized internship program (such as the Intern Development Program) and successfully complete the Architectural Registration Examination are able to become licensed architects.

Track II is designed for students entering with a pre-professional baccalaureate degree in architecture. Evidence of completed coursework will be evaluated using the minimum standards for satisfactory progress for graduate study at KU, curricular standards established by NAAB, and procedures approved by the architecture program. This will determine the degree of advanced placement within the Track III program such a student receives. Typically, most 4+2 students have a program of study requiring 75-76 credits of coursework. There are two options within our 4+2 M.Arch. program:

Health and Wellness

The quality of the built environment has a significant impact on quality of life and well-being. With advances in architectural research, we know of correlations between asthma, obesity, physical activity, physical independence and architectural design. This 75 credit (typical) option is crafted so as to prepare students for professional careers in healthcare and lifecare architecture, or in any building type concerned with the promotion of human wellness (e.g. workplaces, homes, schools).

Design-Build

Architectural practice in the 21st century is increasingly moving toward a mode of integrated practice wherein the building delivery process is thought of holistically and team members are involved from project conceptualization through occupancy. The University of Kansas has been a leader in this area for the past decade, with our award-winning Studio 804. This 75 credit (typical) option is crafted so as to prepare students for professional careers in design-build and other practices innovating in the realm of process delivery.
